A legend comes to Macau with the opening of Long Bar at Raffles at Galaxy Macau. The world’s first Raffles’ speakeasy to carry the famed Long Bar name, this sophisticated gin bar features stunning interiors inspired by the storied Portuguese carrack ship the Madre de Deus. Long Bar offers guests expertly made classic cocktails as well as a selection of Macau-exclusive drinks dreamed up by a team of world-class bartenders led by the multi-award-winning Hong Kong mixology trailblazer Antonio Lai.
Step into a world of intrigue and adventure at the Long Bar at Raffles at Galaxy Macau. Hidden behind a nautical porthole door, this speakeasy-style bar draws inspiration from the Madre de Deus, a Portuguese carrack that brought precious spices to Macau in the 1500s. Echoing the subterranean coastal caves of Macau, once teeming with sailors and smuggled treasure, this secret corner of Raffles at Galaxy Macau becomes a rendezvous for modern-day explorers and connoisseurs of fine libations.
As you enter, the rough and smooth layers of the bar’s cavernous, chiseled interiors, designed by Hong Kong interior design star Joyce Wang, transport you to an era when sailors, smugglers, and tradespeople gathered to exchange stories and clandestine goods. The Gin distillation process can be traced back to this fascinating chapter in history, where it was stored within underground caverns and caves.
Vintage aged Gin-based cocktails, masterfully crafted by award-winning homegrown mixologist Antonio Lai, pay homage to the spices that were once carried in the Madre de Deus’ hold. Pepper, cloves, cinnamon, mace, and nutmeg - key ingredients in the production of Gin – find new life in contemporary concoctions that tantalize the senses.
As live vinyl DJ sets fill the air, the Long Bar at Raffles is a portal to an era where adventure was the currency, and every sip is a chapter in a storied journey. Here, flavours from the spice trade meet contemporary cocktail culture and global gastronomy, allowing your senses to embark on an intrepid journey through time.
